The National Programme for Information Technology for the NHS (NPfIT) is one of the world’s largest and most exciting IT projects. It will revolutionise the way information is transferred and used across the NHS, bringing significant benefits to patients and to the clinicians who treat them.
NHS NPfIT is implementing projects vital to the NHS modernisation programme and focuses on four key developments that will make a significant difference to patients and those caring for them:

• Care Records
An electronic NHS care records service with an NHS care record for each patient.
• Appointments The provision of facilities for electronic booking of appointments.
• Prescriptions
An electronic transmission of prescriptions service.
• Infrastructure
An underpinning IT infrastructure with sufficient connectivity and broadband capacity to meet future NHS needs.

The work of NHS (NPfIT) will be undertaken progressively to give patients greater choice and involvement in decisions about their care including access to, and ownership of their records. Currently within the NPfIT, Generic supplies various resources ranging from IT support right through to programme director. Generic also offers professional services and contractual resources to many other clients within the health industry such as:

• Department of Health
